A Word About Cooper High School

Cooper High School opened in the fall of 1960. It was named in honor of Oscar H. Cooper, an eminent Abilene educator who served as President of Baylor University and Hardin-Simmons University. Dr. Cooper was a Yale graduate who made notable contributions as a great man and educator. He was a man of high honor and unselfish devotion.

We enjoy a rich tradition of excellence. Academically, we rank with the best. A large percentage of our graduates attend colleges or technical and trade schools. Our vocational programs are a source of great pride, preparing many of our students for the world of work. The fine arts program is superior. Our students in band, choir, orchestra, speech and drama perform at the highest levels. Our athletic program is the envy of schools across the state. Teams and individuals representing our school have gained statewide recognition in football, baseball, track, golf, swimming, basketball, volleyball, soccer, gymnastics, softball, weight lifting, and tennis.
